Logan joined the Board of Directors of ABAS after being elected at the September program and membership meeting. Logan is in the process of taking over the day-to-day website activities of posting feature articles, upcoming events, and other information on our website. He will be adjusting our web pages as necessary as well.
He was born in Casey, Illinois just southwest of Terre Haute. He attended Indiana State University where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance. He moved to the Indianapolis area after college and has worked in personal finance for 11 years. He has also been married to Kristina Lakins for just under 11 years. They have three dogs named Roo, Harper, and Otis.
Logan started birding in 2019. He frequently saw Red-tailed Hawks perched along the highway on his way to work. This “sparked” his interest in birding. He wasted no time getting serious and did an Indiana big year in 2020. He got 308 birds per American Birding Association rules. In addition, he saw Whooping Cranes at Goose Pond and a Wood Stork on the Ohio River that was technically in Kentucky. By eBird protocols, it’s an Indiana bird since he was standing in Indiana. So he saw 310! That’s quite an accomplishment for a second-year birder.
He’s now a seasoned veteran and will be one of the leaders on our Goose Pond field trip in November. Goose pond is his favorite birding spot. Though he says he has “plenty to learn about birding in Indiana, especially with gulls and shorebirds”. He has a goal of finding at least 200 species in every Indiana county.
Logan has a special interest in helping Indiana birding through habitat restoration and land preservation. He clearly fits in with the ABAS mission of enjoyment and stewardship of the birds of central Indiana. Please join us in welcoming Logan to the ABAS Board.
