Val is in her third year of birding and says her favorite day of the week is Sunday morning… when she and her husband Casey can always be found at the Amos Butler Audubon Society Walks at Eagle Creek Park. She enjoys the community of Amos Butler birders and is eager to participate in the promotion of birding. Val said she owes the birders at Eagle Creek Park a huge debt of thanks because they are so generous and forthcoming with their knowledge.  The friendships she has developed through birding are what brought her back to the weekly walks and got her hooked on the birds. After her first walk, Becky Lomax said “I hope to see you back next week” and it was like a personal invitation. Now, she tries to make it a point to seek out first timers and greet them warmly.

Val grew up in Connecticut and has lived in Indianapolis since 1993. She is a Registered Nurse and Operations Manager for Ascension Medical Group.  She has one adult daughter Elisa, a 17-year-old dog named Violet, and a cat named Chili Pepper. Other than birding, Val and her husband Casey enjoy farmer’s markets, city events like Pride and Penrod, and almost anything at the fairgrounds. Val is an avid music listener and her favorite place to go is New Orleans.

Val recently became a volunteer at Eagle Creek and had a great time volunteering at the pellet table, during Owl Fest ’24.  She has participated in annual bird counts and is eager to put her skills towards the needs of the Amos Butler Audubon Society as Membership Chair, as part of both the Board and Executive Committee.
