Urgent! The Indiana legislature is currently writing the state budget. Take time today to urge your state legislators to adopt these important conservation funding measures.
“Spring migration is gearing up, but the places that birds need to survive and thrive in Indiana have been shrinking. Only 15 percent of the state’s historic wetlands remain, and in recent years, the amount of land covered by forests has decreased in 85 of the state’s 92 counties.
Thankfully, Governor Holcomb has proposed investing $25 million to conserve important natural areas across Indiana, and $50 million to expand state trails. This would be the biggest commitment of state funding for land conservation in 30 years and it will help ensure that more quality habitat is available for the hundreds of bird species that rely on Indiana’s precious natural spaces. Indiana’s natural spaces are also critical for Hoosiers. Conserving our natural resources will provide funds to improve the parks, trails, and outdoor areas in the communities where we live, work and play. Birds like the Willow Flycatcher depend upon Indiana’s natural areas. Please take action today to protect them!”
