Join a naturalist for a bark ID lesson, designed for homeschoolers and a guardian. In the wintertime, trees without their leaves can be very intimidating for identification! Knowing trees by their bark is an excellent way to refine your identification skills and develop a greater sense of place in nature. During our lesson, we will learn tips & tricks for tree ID and we will focus on color, texture, and characteristic pattern differences that will help you learn your trees in their dormant state. Binoculars will be provided to look at bark and birds as we find them and participants will be given a tree ID handout to foster continued learning. Content covered during this lesson & hike is best suited for children 10-14. We encourage homeschoolers to attend due to the time of this program. Pre-registration is required, $10 per child participant. Children must be accompanied by an adult guardian, who do not need to register as a participant but they must stay for the duration of the program.
