Event Series Holliday Park Bird Hike

Holliday Park Bird Hike

Holliday Park Nature Center 6363 Spring Mill Road, Indianapolis, IN, United States

Join us at Holliday Park for a bird hike through the woods and along the White River. Beginning birders welcome! Depending on the rules at the time, masks will likely be required for most of the hike. There may be times we can spread out and take a quick break from the masks. Check the ABAS calendar to be sure the hike isn't canceled.

Spring Migrant Bird Hike at Sargent Road Nature Park – FULL

Sargent Road Nature Park 8101 Sargent Rd, Indianapolis, IN, United States

Join us as Earl Simon leads us through Sargent Road Nature Park (SRNP). Earl is a member of the board of the Mud Creek Conservancy which is instrumental in the development of SRNP.  This will be prime time for viewing warblers and other migrants. The terrain is flat with a mowed trail for easy accessibility.  Dress appropriately for the weather conditions and don't forget your binoculars.  There are no restrooms available at the park. The field trip is limited to 12 participants and registration is required.

Fort Harrison State Park Spring Migration Walks

Fort Harrison State Park 6000 North Post Rd, Indianapolis, IN, United States

Join Don Gorney for his spring migration bird walks at Ft. Harrison. During the walk Don will point out birds seen and heard and provide details on how to identify spring warblers. Walks are ninety minutes to two hours on relatively even terrain. There is no fee for the walk but standard gate admission applies. Meet in the northeast corner of the Delaware Lake parking lot.

Washington Township Park Beginner Bird Hike

Join experienced birders from ABAS as they lead a bird hike at Washington Township Park. This hike will be geared toward beginner birders though all experience levels are welcome. Meet at the gazebo in the Upper Park. Be sure to bring binoculars and bird identification books if you have them. Dress for the weather. Trail terrain may be steep and uneven. Please wear good walking shoes. Restrooms are located beside the parking lot. All participants must register with Washington Township Parks & Recreation.

Each Sunday year-round at Eagle Creek Park. Meet us at 9:00 am at the Ornithology Center. This event is free, though a gate fee to Eagle Creek Park applies.

Bird Zionsville Week – Birding for Beginners

Do you want to learn more about birds but don’t know where to start? This introductory class will cover the identification of common backyard birds, binocular use, and how to attract birds to your yard. This program features a Thursday evening webinar with an optional Saturday morning field day to practice what you’ve learned. A Zoom link to the Thursday webinar will be sent out to all registered participants the week of the program.

Experienced birders from ABAS will lead a bird hike sponsored by the Friends of Marott Woods Nature Preserve. Beginning birders welcome. This should be primetime for spring migration. The preserve has dirt trails and there are decent hill climbs so wear appropriate footwear. Don't forget to bring your binoculars. The bird hike is free and no advanced registration is required. We'll meet at the preserve parking lot.

ABAS will lead a bird hike at Hague Road Nature Haven sponsored by the Noblesville Parks and Recreation. Beginning birders are welcome. This should be prime time for spring migration.  The bird hike is free but limited to 12 participants.

Sodalis Nature Park Spring Hike – FULL

Sodalis Nature Park 7700 S. Co. Rd. 975E, Plainfield, IN, United States

Join experienced birder and field trip leader, Scott Enochs, as he leads you on a bird hike at Sodalis Nature Park in search of migrating warblers and other spring arrivals.  Sodalis is known as one of the most productive birding hotspots in Hendricks County.  170 species have been recorded there, including 34 warbler species. Registration is required and there is a limit of 12 participants.
