Fall Warbler Identification

Join Scott Enochs, warbler identification enthusiast and field trip chair for ABAS, for a crash course in fall warbler identification. The talk will run about an hour to an hour and a half, followed by optional birding in the park.

Waterfowl ID Workshop

Join ABAS Education Chair and waterfowl enthusiast Jessica Helmbold for a crash course on Indiana's Waterfowl. After the course, we will have lunch in the park and explore Eagle Creek Reservoir for waterfowl. Then in following weekends, weather dependent, we will make excursions to Muscatatuck NWR and Goose Pond for further study. Details about the two additional field trip opportunities will be emailed to workshop participants, posted on our Facebook page, and posted on the ABAS web site. You may join us just for the lecture, any of the field trips, or all events. For details, contact jessica.helmbold@indy.gov. RSVPs are appreciated, though not required.

6th Annual Young Birders Conference

The conference at Cool Creek Nature Center will feature speakers from the Indiana Young Birders Club as well as a keynote speaker.

eBird Workshop

Whether you consider yourself an expert eBird user or you have never used it before, there are always plenty of new things to learn about the online database created by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Join, Amos Butler Audubon Society President, Sabrewing Nature Tours owner, and well versed eBird user, Rob Ripma, for a thorough look at eBird. Rob has used eBird extensively around the world and right here in Indiana. Just bring yourself, a pen and paper and any questions you might have to the Eagle Creek Ornithology Center on October 6th.

Wetland Birding Workshop at Muscatatuck NWR

Join ABAS Education Chair, Jessica Helmbold, for a workshop on wetland birds at Muscatatuck NWR. It will be a half day workshop ending with  lunch at the visitor center around 1:00 pm. If you'd like to stay for lunch, please bring a brown bag or cooler lunch.

Join Scott Enochs, warbler identification enthusiast and Field Trip Chair for ABAS, for a crash course in warbler identification. We will start in the Ornithology Center classroom and then head outside, weather permitting, to look for migrating warblers in Eagle Creek Park. This event is free with park admission. Drop-ins are welcome. If you have binoculars, please bring them. If you would like to look for warblers after the presentation, please dress for the weather and wear comfortable walking shoes.

Nocturnal Migrants

Join Eagle Creek Ornithology Center naturalist, Aidan Rominger, on Wednesday, September 18th, from 7:00-8:30 pm where he will go through how to properly ID many of these migrating songbird species at night, by listening to flight calls given by each species.

Shorebird Workshop
