Fort Harrison State Park Fall Migration Walks

Fort Harrison State Park 6000 North Post Rd, Indianapolis, IN, United States

Fall migration is lively and full of warblers, raptors, sparrows, and other songbirds. During the walk, expert birder Don Gorney will point out birds seen and heard and provide details on how to identify cryptic fall warblers, drab flycatchers, and LBJ’s, or Little Brown Jobs, also known as sparrows. Walks are approximately two hours on relatively even terrain. There is no fee for the walk but standard gate admission applies. Meet in the northeast corner of the Delaware Lake parking lot at 8:00 am.

Bird Walks in the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab

The Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary, and the hike will be led by one of the bird experts at Marian. The only things that are necessary are binoculars and a little bit of patience! We will meet at the St. Francis statue just west of the Allison Mansion on the Marian campus at 8:00 am every Wednesday starting September 1 and ending November 17. Bring water to drink and wear comfortable shoes. No reservation is required

Brown Bears of McNeil River

Join Chuck Anderson, ABAS President and Field Trip Chair, for an informative program about the Brown Bears of McNeil River State Game Sanctuary in Alaska. Chuck will share his four-day experience watching Brown Bears interact, feed, sleep and play.  Many of the bears photographed were within 25 feet and one curious cub came within 5 feet before mom called him back to her side.

Volunteer Workday at Hazel Landing Park

Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is hosting a joint event for ABAS and Hamilton County Invasives Partnership (HIP).  Join us at Hazel Landing Park where these two nature-loving groups will (net)work together to beautify the park. ABAS members will do litter cleanup along the White River and enjoy some bird observations while the HIP strike team will take out invasive plants. Registration required.
