Bird Walks in the Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab
Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab 3200 Cold Spring Road, Indianapolis, IN, United StatesThe Nina Mason Pulliam EcoLab is a wonderful place to bird watch, with over 165 different species sightings being recorded since 2002. No experience is necessary, and the hike will be led by one of the bird experts at Marian. The only things that are necessary are binoculars and a little bit of patience! We will meet at the St. Francis statue just west of the Allison Mansion on the Marian campus at 8:00 am every Wednesday starting September 3 and ending November 17. Bring water to drink and wear comfortable shoes. No reservation is required.

Fort Harrison State Park Fall Migration Walks
Fort Harrison State Park 6000 North Post Rd, Indianapolis, IN, United StatesFall migration is lively and full of warblers, raptors, sparrows, and other songbirds. During the walk, expert birder Don Gorney will point out birds seen and heard and provide details on how to identify cryptic fall warblers, drab flycatchers, and LBJ’s, or Little Brown Jobs, also known as sparrows. Walks are approximately two hours on relatively even terrain. There is no fee for the walk but standard gate admission applies. Meet in the northeast corner of the Delaware Lake parking lot at 8:00 am.

Bats of Indiana – And Beyond

He will touch upon everything from myths surrounding bats, their classification and specialized anatomy, their habits, conservation, why bats are important, the threats they face, bat species native to Indiana, the truth about bats and rabies, and the latest in bat call analysis. Ryan holds a BS from Purdue University in Wildlife Science.

Warblers and Migrants – McCloud Nature Park
McCloud Park Nature Center 8518 Hughes Rd, North Salem, IN, United StatesJoin ecologist, botanist, and ABAS bird hike leader, Roger Hedge, as we look for migrating fall warblers and year-round residents in this 232-acre park in Hendricks County. We’ll meet at the Nature Center at 8:00 am and bird on foot from there. The trails are well defined and the terrain is flat. The Nature Center opens at 10:00 am and has modern restrooms, as well as a bird feeding viewing area. There is no fee for the field trip. However, it is limited to 10 participants, and registration is required.
